Overview

The main objective of Natureobics™ is to inspire you to develop and deepen a soulful connection with yourself, nature and others through outdoor physical activity. These fun and creative exercise classes are taught by Dominique and volunteer Natureobics™ guides. You will meet wonderful individuals who share a love of movement, nature and a desire to push their envelope. You will also get a chance to improve your technique and knowledge of the sport and learn valuable information on training principles from Dominique’s personal racing experience. Expect to get dirty and sweaty! Healthy eating practices are strongly encouraged during the four week period to encourage fat burning and muscle toning. Informative handouts are also given during the classes.

Natureobics™ Grades

We have ranked our classes into three grades, which reflect relative levels of difficulty and physical output. These are to be used as approximate indicators and guides only, as everyone has different expectations and perceptions of their abilities, fitness levels and pain tolerance.
Gentle
The class will include many stops to site-see, smell the fresh air and chat with fellow friends. Distance covered is minimal and much of the time is spent on sport specific drills and application of mental training technique since you are still new to the sport and it’s physical/mental/technical demands. Most of the class is practised at Zone 1 or sub Zone 1 (less than 60% of your maximum heart rate) and we focus mainly on technique, form and breathing.
Moderate
You should be in good health, reasonably fit and have a sound knowledge of the technical aspect of the sport. Some hills will be introduced and your biggest challenge will be to adapt to the technical/physical/mental demands that the speedwork will require.
Challenging
Previous experience is desirable, but not essential for those who are in good physical condition and have natural sport abilities. Previous fitness and mental training skills are important since you we will be challenging your limits. You have good knowledge of the technical aspect of the sport from previous teachings and practice. Friendly competitive games may be introduced to challenge participants to reach their full potential.

Instructor: Dominique Larocque

Dominique
Dominique has spent most of the late 80’s and early 90’s training and competing in many outdoor sports, locally as well as internationally. In 1991, she represented Canada at the World’s Mountain Bike Championships in Lucca, Italy where two flats resulted in a DNF. In 1992, she decided to transfer her athletic abilities to inline speed racing. In 1993, she finished 1st pro elite female in the 145 km Athens to Atlanta inline skate marathon. In 1996, Dominique captured the National Inline Skating Champion title. Her latest athletic accomplishment is a 2nd place finish in the pro elite category at the 2002 New York City 100 km Marathon. Dominique is a Level 3 NCCP Coach. “I CAN’T DO THAT” is not part of Dominique’s reality and she believes strongly that age, fitness level, body size and gender should never be a deterrent in trying any new sport activity.

You are a wonderful, loving, dynamic, charismatic spirit and even though our experience was cut short, I learned very much from you - both on an athletic level and a personal level. There was consistently one thing that I took home with me after every class with you, and that was I always had a big smile on my face driving home from class! -- TM
Wow, that was an amazing experience! I can't believe how great and pumped I feel after these rides! It has only been 3 weeks and I feel that I have learned so much already. I have realized that I really need to push myself more when I do activities and I'm really looking forward to it! I also never realized how competitive I may actually be, which makes me want to train harder and even make a training schedule for myself...I can't wait....this could be addictive! -- VC
I recall the feeling I used to get on a winter evening, doing laps on the outdoor oval, focusing on technique. On a clear night, all other thoughts would be blocked out as I’d push, glide, push, glide, push, glide, breaking each motion down one by one. I’d concentrate on feeling the surface of the ice, observe and shift the contact of my feet, the angle of my legs, the transfer of my weight. I was learning how my body worked and thrilling at the feeling, as every little correction would improve my speed and fluidity and make me feel more connected with the present. While I was training, the noise and chatter of the everyday was gone, at least for a while, and I could breathe deeply of life. It really was excellent therapy. -- KP
